Destination US

Getting Started What to carry and how much to carry is the biggest problem while coming to U.S.? Don’t Carry many things as you can buy over here .Don’t carry warm warm clothes unless u are going there in winter.Don,t Carry cooking Utensils as u start missing Indian food once u come to US. . But you should carry leather shoes from India , since leather items are costly in the U.S. Rest, it all depends on you and your needs Travel:There are number International stop on ur way. Generally passengers are required to get down at an International stop, which might be for Security checkup or cleaning of the airplane. You will be given a 'transit visa`. Normally the halt is for a couple of hours. Listen to the announcement, which is always made before the international halt. You will hear information about departure time, gate number etc. After getting down at Intl. Airport , you can move around in the airport. But be at the gate within 45 minutes of your flight's departure for the onward journey, cause they may require checking your tickets etc. On Arrival Immigration : The first process you need to go through at the port-of-entry U.S. airport after landing is the immigration and customs clearance. Before getting down at your port-of-entry final international halt, inside the plane, you will be given a form to fill up called I-94. Specify the information correctly in the form. On alighting from the plane you may ask people or signs will guide you to the immigration. Keep your passport, H1-paper and the form you filled inside the plane, handy. At the counter you might be asked some questions. Talk absolutely to the point and don’t lie as every thing will be written on the paper .You will be given the counter foil of I-94 form. Keep that very carefully. Claiming your Baggage : Thereafter move toward the baggage claim carousel assigned to your flight; simply follow the signs directing you to the place..Hire a trolley and Collect your luggage and look for signs directing you to customs clearance. At the customs clearance they may ask you to open your bags for a security check. Reaching ur Final Destination : Locate the counter for the domestic airline you will be taking to your final destination. Above all don't hesitate or feel shy to ask for help from airport support staff or police officers, if you need anything. Follow signs directing you to your domestic flight because you will need a boarding pass. If it is far away, take the Airport shuttle service that is free. If you don't know where to get down, tell the driver in advance and he will drop you off at the proper place. At the counter check-in your baggage and get your boarding pass issued and ready. On arrival at the final destination, collect your baggage once again and look around for that someone who may be there to receive you. If you don't find anyone or you already have specific instructions, follow those, otherwise call up the DCI area coordinator whose tel. number you should be carrying. Therefore remember to keep phone numbers handy. Get information from the DCI area-coordinator on the stay arrangements made for you. Finally, if no one comes to pick you up, try to locate the information counter from where you will get all the information regarding how to call for Also the Public Transport section of this guide will help you in understanding the travel facilities available in the U.S. Lifestyle & Language For successful conversation, in the US , it is advisable that you speak slowly and pronounce properly. Well, the first part you really need to practice otherwise what you will hear from the person opposite is "pardon me", "come again", "I am sorry", "I didn't get you". e.g. The changes in pronunciation are like 'schedule' pronounced as 'skedule', 'route' pronounced 'raut' etc. Also some words are totally substituted like 'petrol' by 'gas'.When you come to the U.S. you will notice the opposite everywhere. You will get the feeling "These guys are crazy" .....almost everything you try to do will fail even if it is a small thing like switching ON the lamp !!!!" This is just to make you get a hang of it. The cars are driven on the right hand side instead of left hand side of the road. So you should look left first while crossing roads . You may have to insert the key upside down and rotate it in the opposite direction to unlock. You will also notice that switches work in opposite direction i.e. UP is ON and DOWN is OFF .The date is written with the month first, then day, followed by the year. Download(MS-Word Format)

Higher Studies At USA

United States Of America MS-Word format One of the distinguishing features of the American educational system is autonomy of its institutions .The colleges and universities are not under any central ministry of education .As such each college or university has its own programmes and sets its own criteria for admission of students ,both from within and outside the country .They grant their own degrees. Some of the universities have set very high and exacting standards ,while have flexible and less demanding in this respect.. Another note worthy characterstic of the American educational system is accrediation of institutions.both college and universities are accrediated by accrediating agencies which are nongovernmental associations.Accrediation also facilitates transfer of student from one accredited institution to another .It is advisable to take admission in an accredited institution. Higher Education in United States Of America After completion of Undergraduate study .The following programs are available. *Masters *Doctoral *Professional *Special advanced degree programmes. How much time is taken to complete each of the above programs ,depends on field of study and nature of curriculum.Generally a masters degree can be earned after successful completion of study of a year or more and doctors degree is earned after three to four more years of study and research. Eligibility : Generally three important factors are essential for people aspiring to go to the USA for higher education..First you must have a consistently good perfomance i.e.,preferably a first class from high school onwards.Secondly ,you should have a stong financial support to finance your studies and thirdly ,you should be proficient in English. Selecting Universities One generally finds its hard to make a choice to select the accredited institutions imparting quality education in the United States .It is always advisable that instead of selecting to only well known prestigious universities you should apply to about ten Universies in aparticular subject in making a selection of Universities you should bear in the following points *Whether the program of your choice and need is available. *You should determine your academic aptitude before you apply. *Expenses involved on tuition and living. *Whether financial aid is available,if so what is its nature. *What are admission requirements such as minimum academic performances and test to be taken . *What are research facilities and interests of the faculty. Tips To get acquainted with what Universities look for before giving you the admission. These may be *The Undergraduate institute you attended. *Your GRE & Toefl scores *The Grade Point Average (GPA) or cumulative percentage ,rank in class. *Letter of recommendation. *Overall coherence in the Statement of Purpose (SOP) and work experience. *Research interest and skills:Programming. *Degree you intend to work towards Ph.d/M.s *Personal Qualities: Motivation,Reliability,Sincerity,Maturity,Integrity,Commucation Skills. *Extra curricular activities:Volunteering,Leadership roles. *To arrive at a decision whether to go for studies or to get a job.
